President’s Message

Welcome to a new chapter year! As many of you know, our chapter celebrated its 50th anniversary on June 12 and is the fifth oldest ISACA chapter. My name is Sushila Nair, and I am excited to be the new ISACA GWDC President. I have volunteered with the chapter for a number of years including as Director of Marketing and most recently as Vice President. I teach several of our certification review courses and have spoken at a number of GWDC and Global conferences.

I look forward to our next two years in the chapter. We are preparing for our upcoming board strategy meeting and reviewing your feedback from event surveys and the most recent membership survey.

The Chapter Board of Directors will take your input as we plan future conferences, seminars, training, and social events.

News from the Annual General Meeting

Member News from the Annual General Meeting of the Chapter Membership
The results of the Election of new Chapter Officers was announced and the following individuals were installed as Officers for the next two-year term (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2026):

• President: Sushila Nair
• Vice President: Katherine Scott
• Secretary: Magali Velazquez
• Treasurer: Mickey Gandhi

The current Chapter President, Jermaine Stanley, takes over the position of Past President.

In addition, the following award winners were announced:

• President’s Award: Micky Gandhi

Chapter Planning Survey

Planning Survey for the New Chapter Year
The GWDC Board of Directors is planning for the new chapter year (Jul 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025) and is soliciting input from Chapter Members as well as non-members on our past events and preferences for future events.  The survey should take 3 – 5 minutes to complete. The information provided will be invaluable input in planning for upcoming events and services for the 2024 – 2025 chapter year.  The Chapter Board is holding a strategy meeting on July 13 – 14 and requests that responses be provided by July 12 so that the feedback can be included in chapter planning.  Thank you to the Chapter Members that have already responded to the survey.  For those that complete the survey, you will have a chance to win an ISACA hoodie!

In celebration of the GWDC’s 50th Anniversary, several of the Chapter’s Presidents have shared their thoughts on their experiences, memorable moments, and other activities during their tenure.  The Presidents also share their advice for current and future GWDC leaders and how serving has influenced their personal and professional growth.  Thanks to the current and former Chapter Presidents for taking their time to provide their thoughts.  A special thanks to Jim Wiggins for his tireless efforts in performing and producing these interviews.

CPE Updates

CPEs Uploaded to ISACA Global for GWDC Events (2nd Quarter 2024)
CPE credits for GWDC events that were awarded in the 2nd quarter of this year have been uploaded to ISACA Global for GWDC Members.

CPE Certificates for the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Seminar
CPE Certificates for participants who attended the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Seminar are available. An email with the link to the certificate was sent on July 4th to participants. CPEs credits will be uploaded to ISACA Global by September 30th, following our quarterly schedule for CPE uploads.

Upcoming Discounted Events for GWDC Members

Complimentary Attendance for GWDC Members at the Official Cybersecurity Summit DC Metro 2024
The Cyber Security Summit is offering complimentary admission to the DC Metro 2024 Cybersecurity Summit on July 18 at The Ritz-Carlton in Tysons Corner.  This is a non-GWDC event. All registrations, questions, and communications are handled by the vendor.  Any CPEs will be issued by the vendor.

[Partner Event] ISSA NOVA Summer Social
The GWDC is partnering in a summer social with ISSA-NOVA, ISSA Central MD, ISSA DC, CSA, ISC2 NCR, and ACFE DC on Thursday, August 15 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. This is a hybrid event presented at Marymount University Ballston Center. Retired Major General Garrett Yee, Vice President of General Dynamics Information Technology will speak on “Pursuing Zero Trust in a Denied, Degraded, Intermittent, and Limited (Bandwidth) (DDIL).”  Please visit the ISSA NOVA website for more information.  Registrations must be received by August 12.
