MUISG Update 2021

In October 2020. the MU ISG elected a new board for the academic year 2020-2021:

  • President: Kristof Palfi
  • Vice-President: Sherly Pinto
  • Secretary: Simeon Enchev
  • Treasurer: Abdullah Amanie

After the elections, the MU ISG organized two activities:

  1. On October 14th, 2020: Seminar “The Dark Web” with Babur Kohy – ISACA GWDC Director for Education in partnership with MU ACM-W SG.
  2. On November 18th, 2020 – the Privacy 101 Workshop in partnership with WISDOM and Startpage.

In Spring 2021, the MU ISG launched the first edition of IT and Cybersecurity event series and organized 5 seminars:

  1. 24th, 2021: Aspects and Influences of AI in the Modern World with Dr. Natalia Ermicioi – ISACA GWDC Associate Director for Education.
  2. 3rd, 2021: IT entrepreneurship with MU’s BILT Dean Jonathan Aberman.
  3. 10th, 2021: Choosing the Most Suited Career in Information Technology with Fatoumata Sankare – currently a Data Scientist at a consulting firm and a Visiting Professor of Computer Information Systems at West Virginia University and Christopher R. Sokol – a Federal Employee at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
  4. 17th, 2021: IT Footprint and IT Surveillance with Dr. Stephen Boyce – MU Alumni and former FBI employee.
  5. 24th, 2021: How to Become an Effective and Efficient Programmer with Dr. Pipop Nuangpookka – the Chair of the Information Management Science Program at BAU as and a professor and Analyst/Programmer, Infrastructure Technologies at MU.

Additionally, in April 2021, MU ISG organized the first edition of the MU Cybersecurity Competition 2021 – a joint project between the faculty, staff, doctoral students (MU’s Doctorate of Science in Cybersecurity), MU ISG and MU ACM-W SG.

During the Summer 2021 semester, the MU ISG will continue the Elder Tech project that started in Spring 2021, where MU ISG members will prepare presentations for a senior community in the area.

Also in April 2021, MU ISG elected a new board for the academic year 2021-2022:

  • President – Soliana Hailemichael
  • Vice-President – Bryan Viera Gomez
  • Secretary – Samantha King
  • Treasurer – Ryan Pascual
