Member News from the Annual General Meeting of the Chapter Membership
The GWDC’s Annual Meeting of the Chapter Membership was held on June 12, 2024. The recording from the AGM and the accompanying slide deck will be emailed to current chapter members as part of this month’s newsletter. Below are the key announcements from the AGM.
Election of Chapter Officers
The results of the Election of new Chapter Officers was announced and the following individuals were installed as Officers for the next two-year term (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2026):
- President: Sushila Nair
- Vice President: Katherine Scott
- Secretary: Magali Velazquez
- Treasurer: Mickey Gandhi
The current Chapter President, Jermaine Stanley, takes over the position of Past President.
V. Lee Conyers Award
The V. Lee Conyers Award was created by the ISACA® Greater Washington D.C. Chapter to honor and remember V. Lee Conyers, a distinguished member of the chapter. The award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the GWDC, ISACA, and the IT audit, security, control, and governance profession.
This year’s recipient is Jason Yakencheck. Jason embodies the characteristics represented by this award. Like V. Lee Conyers, Jason is active in the profession and service to ISACA GWDC. Jason has earned awards for his leadership and volunteerism. He has spoken at a number of industry conferences and is respected in the DC IT community. Jason served ISACA Global and GWDC in countless ways. As President, Jason led our chapter through growth and found ways to connect with members through networking events. Jason keeps our chapter information current on Engage. He continues to help the board with Cvent. Jason mentors others in project and management roles at IBM and ISACA. Jason is passionate about the growth of young professionals and presented strategic initiatives to International. Because of his steadfast work and leadership professionally and in his volunteer roles, Jason inspires others to continually learn, motivates his peers to volunteer, and provides thought leadership to IBM, ISACA, and the industry.

Meritorious Service Award
This award provides special recognition of volunteers who elevated their ISACA GWDC contributions to a different height and delivered successful outcomes for the chapter membership and community.
This year’s recipient is Melissa Fortson, a Special Events volunteer who has been an instrumental part of planning and delivering several of the chapter’s social and in-person events this chapter year. Congratulations Melissa!
President’s Award
This award recognizes an exceptional volunteer who has made a significant contribution to the Chapter’s success throughout the chapter year and made a positive impact in the professional advancement of their fellow GWDC members.
This year’s recipient is Mickey Gandhi, the Chapter Treasurer. Mickey oversees the chapter’s finances and budgeting processes and is an invaluable member of the leadership team, providing practical advice and guidance on financial matters. Congratulations Mickey!
