Dear Fellow Members,
Happy Cybersecurity Awareness month! With the threats growing exponentially year to year, it makes the awareness and education even more important. The weakest link in cyber defense is the human and as much as we can do to increase our knowledge, the more resilient we become and in turn the more resilient our organizations will be.
October is another packed month for the chapter. We have a Modernizing Risk Management Panel event, annual cybersecurity conference, Bringing IT Strategy to the C-Suite Executive Seminar, CSX training, CRISC review course and the ISACA chapter leadership Eastern Leadership conference which representatives from our Board of Directors will attend to learn and share information to help improve chapter operations and identify new ways to add value for our members.
As part of Cybersecurity awareness month, GWDC’s annual cybersecurity conference is back. This event typically draws around 200+ attendees and is a great way to get CPEs and the latest information pertaining to cybersecurity. This is our last full day conference of the calendar year, so be sure to attend if you are in need of CPEs. I hope to see you there.
Don’t forget – ISACA is running a Global CommuniITy Volunteer Day on October 5th. This will be a way that ISACA can make a difference around the world on an annual basis. GWDC will be participating to help manage an autism speaks walk. To learn more about our involvement and how you can be a part of the event, take a look at the event page.
We have an Executive Special Seminar, Bringing IT Strategy to the C-Suite, to be held on Oct 17 at the Key Bridge Marriott in Rosslyn. These executive focused events are very valuable for networking with fellow leaders and being part of a strategic session to get important takeaways that can then be leveraged to shape your own organization.
I’m really happy to share that we had a very successful early career professionals event in September. This event was held in conjunction with the ISACA Central Maryland Chapter in Bethesda. The event registration slots filled up in a matter of days. Supporting early career professionals is something I care deeply about and I’m always glad when we can hold events such as this one to support those beginning their career in Cybersecurity or IT Audit. We plan to hold more of these events in the future, so be on the look out for another in next year.
As always, we encourage everyone to follow GWDC on social media. We increasingly share updates and news on platforms like Twitter or LinkedIn on a regular basis. In the month of September alone, we had 30+ social media posts about our events and industry news.
