Dear Fellow Members,
It is bittersweet to write my final President’s Message. Leading ISACA GWDC the last two years was such a privilege and the experience has been incredibly rewarding. The commitment of my fellow Board of Directors and volunteers never ceases to amaze me. It is through their passion, dedication, and tireless efforts that we were able to realize many accomplishments.
We surpassed the 4,000 member milestone in February for the first time in chapter history and received the 2019 K. Wayne Snipes Award for best very large chapter. We continue to grow our partnerships with other organizations such as Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), Information System Security Association (ISSA), Institute for Critical Infrastructure Technology (ICIT), DC Cyber Summit and many others in order to increase benefits to our members.
Even in the face of a global pandemic we were able to pivot quickly and offer many virtual Cybersecurity workshop webinars to seamlessly provide continuing education when in person events were not possible. These virtual learning sessions will continue through June and the video archive is available on our website.
Furthermore, we continue to expand our relationship with academia. In the wake of COVID-19 when organizations were curtailing their internship programs, ISACA GWDC created internship roles to support students impacted by COVID-19 and provide them opportunities to meet their internship graduation requirements.
As my term as President winds down, I am excited for the new officer team to continue leading the chapter to new heights and bringing continued innovative ideas and education offerings. The chapter is in great hands with Alok Kakker assuming the role of President and Jermaine Stanley as the Vice President. They are great leaders and dedicated to the chapter success.
This is not a farewell by any means. I will continue to stay engaged with the chapter and supporting my ‘ISACA Family’ to the fullest extent possible. GWDC is built on core principles of inclusion and diversity across our membership and others in the region. We stand together now and in the future to champion what is right and what matters to our community. These values propel us forward and I am proud to be part of such a great organization.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the Annual General Meeting on June 11. This event is being held virtually and free of charge. In addition to some excellent speakers, we will be conducting the annual membership briefing, installing new officers, and presenting awards.
I hope we can bring more passionate chapter members onto the volunteer team and give back and continually make GWDC better. Stay safe and healthy everyone. We look forward to seeing you all in person as soon as possible.
