In the U.S. today, cloud computing skills are one of the hottest IT skill sets. In a recent article on Where Cloud Computing Jobs Are In 2016″, Forbes reports that Cloud Computing jobs are more difficult to fill, with Cloud jobs remaining open for 47 days. Forbes also reports that median salary for IT professionals with cloud computing experience is $124,300. Leading the cloud provider space is Amazon through its Amazon Web Services, which is the largest public cloud computing platform in the world. According to Gartner’s Magic Quadrant, AWS offers five times the utilized computing capacity of the other 14 cloud providers. Combined.
Certifications – An Amazon Example
Skilling up in cloud and AWS in particular is important as organizations invest more heavily in this technology. The AWS certifications were launched in 2013 and are one of the most popular certification programs in IT. The certifications last for two years and the exams are approximately 60 multi-choice questions. The questions are scenario based and tests the candidate’s real world experience. Amazon’s certifications are split into associate and professional with the exams becoming progressively harder.
The associate qualifications are:
AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate: Covers technical expertise in designing and deploying scalable, highly available, and fault tolerant systems on AWS.
AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate: Covers technical expertise in deployment, management, and operations on the AWS platform.
AWS Certified Developer – Associate: Covers technical expertise in developing and maintaining applications on the AWS platform.
The professional qualifications are
AWS Certified Solutions Architect: Covers advanced technical skills and experience in designing distributed applications and systems on the AWS platform. It requires that you hold the AWS certified solutions architect qualification
AWS Certified DevOps Engineer: Covers technical expertise in provisioning, operating, and managing distributed application systems on the AWS platform and requires that the candidate has passed either the associate certified developer or the associate certified sysops administrator exams.
